ESL Quiz Game for Adults, Beginner to Intermediate A2-B1, Everyday English Review Game, Google Slides and PowerPoint

$4.99

At work, in stores, at the doctor: that is where my adult learners need English. This ESL quiz game for adults, A2 to B1, is one of my ESL games for adults: 30 everyday English questions in Google Slides or PowerPoint.

Perfect For

  • Adult ESL, ELL and EFL classes at A2 to B1 (beginner to intermediate)
  • Workplace English, evening and community classes, conversation groups and tutoring
  • Pair work and stations with the printable question cards, no projector needed

How the Game Works

  1. A team picks a topic and a dollar value on the board, then answers the question
  2. Click the answer button to check. Correct wins the value, wrong lets another team steal
  3. One cell hides the Daily Double: the team wagers first, then doubles it if correct
  4. After the board, every team wagers on the Final Question. Highest total wins

Why Teachers Love This Game

  • Six real-life topics: At Work, Shopping, Getting Around, Health, Eating Out, and Phone & Email
  • Four question types in every topic: fill the gap, the right reply, what it means, and fix the mistake
  • Grown-up situations and a respectful tone, never childish
  • Every question is editable, so you can swap in your own topics

Here is a quick look at the game:

Description

What’s Included

  • Editable quiz game board (6 topics x 5 values, 30 question slides with answer slides, a Daily Double, and a Final Question) in Google Slides or PowerPoint
  • 30 everyday English questions with answers for adult learners at A2 to B1
  • 30 printable question cards plus 2 blank cards, with the topic and dollar value on the back for double-sided printing
  • Printable four-team score sheet with Daily Double and Final Question wager lines
  • Teacher key with how to play, the full answer grid, and the final answer
  • Color and ink-saver black and white, US Letter and A4

The Six Topics

At Work, Shopping, Getting Around, Health, Eating Out, and Phone & Email. Each column climbs from $100 to $500, from words like boss, cost and menu to a raise, a prescription and “I look forward to hearing from you.”

Four Question Types

  • Fill the gap: a real-life sentence with one missing word and its first letter as a hint, like “I have a sore ___” (t…)
  • The right reply: what you say next in a short exchange, like a cashier asking “Do you need a bag?”
  • What it means: everyday words and signs adults meet, like “50% off” in a store window or ASAP in an email
  • Fix the mistake: the slips adult learners really make, like “we’re ready to command” for “ready to order”

Clear Answers

On every answer slide the right word is bold and green. On fix the mistake questions the wrong word is crossed out next to it, and any other answer that also counts is shown (also OK: …). Words and spelling are US English. The printable cards and the teacher key use the same highlight (bold black in the ink-saver version).

Play It Without a Projector

Print the question cards double-sided and cut them apart. Lay them question-down on the table so learners see only the topic and the dollar value, just like the board. One learner reads the question and checks the answer printed on the card, the partner answers. The same cards work for pair drills, stations and one-to-one tutoring.

Daily Double and Final Question

The Daily Double hides behind one cell on the board. The team that picks it wagers any amount up to their total before seeing the question, and doubles that wager if they answer correctly. When the board is cleared, every team writes down a Final Question wager, the question is shown, and teams add or lose their wager. Highest total wins.

Works On

Windows, Mac, and Chromebooks. Project the slides. No learner devices or logins required.

Important

Play in Slideshow (Present) mode so every cell, button, and link works. The sound buttons (thumbs up, thumbs down, and music) work in the PowerPoint version, which is included here. Google Slides does not play sounds, so those buttons are simply decorative in the Slides version.
