Spanish Sub Plans, Spanish 1 Emergency Sub Binder, A1, Grades 6-12, 9 No Prep Activities

$5.99

One binder in your sub tub, and a surprise sick day is covered. These Spanish sub plans are emergency sub plans for Spanish 1 (level A1): one full day of 9 no prep activities that the sub runs straight from the printout, and the sub needs no Spanish. Your students get both individual work and team tasks: 4 activities they do on their own (a reading, a pen pal reply, a dialogue and a practice menu) and 5 in teams, groups or as a whole class (a logic mystery, a word race, Spanish riddles, Draw and Pass and a speaking stand-off). Every instruction is in English, every Spanish page has its own word bank, and every key gives the Spanish answer with its English meaning. It is review only, for middle school or high school. No prep and no tech for you: print it once and keep it ready.

Perfect For

  • A sudden sick day: emergency sub plans that are ready before you need them
  • A sub who speaks no Spanish: every instruction is in English and every answer is in the key
  • Any Spanish 1 class or period, in middle school or high school: run one activity per period, or the same one all day
  • Your sub tub or emergency sub folder, printed once for the whole year
  • Your own no prep day, or a planned absence like a conference or training

How It Works

  1. Print the binder and leave it on your desk. The lesson plan on page 4 is already filled in: every activity with its page, its minutes and three short steps.
  2. Each activity starts with a sub script: how to set it up, a Read This Out box written to be read aloud word for word, the timing, and the answer key wherever there are answers.
  3. Every activity fits one class period (33 to 45 minutes), so the sub can run a different one each period or the same one all day. They all stand alone.
  4. The quiet individual activities settle a class. The team and group games are optional, a fun way to end a class or to fill extra time.
  5. Writing comes back to you, and the keys settle every answer, so the sub never has to grade, judge or speak Spanish.

What’s Inside: 38 Pages

  • 7 front pages: a binder cover, important information, a note to the substitute, the lesson plan already filled in, a schedule of the day, a class list and dismissal sheet, and a "how it went" sheet for the sub
  • Quiet Reading (individual, 45 min): Two short Spanish texts with questions and keys. A story and a notice. It practices reading short A1 texts for detail, school and free time words, days and times, answering in full Spanish sentences.
  • Fifty-Word Reply (individual, 45 min): Read a pen pal letter in Spanish, take notes, then answer it in exactly 50 Spanish words. It practices reading a pen pal letter, ser, tener and gustar, family, weather and school words, writing a reply in Spanish.
  • Finish the Dialogue (individual, 42 min): Six Spanish openers, three planning boxes, one page of silent dialogue writing. It practices writing a dialogue in Spanish: greetings, questions, estar for feelings, tener que, querer and poder.
  • Practice Menu (individual, 45 min): Three Spanish sheets to choose from: color by verb, number mazes, number problems. It practices present tense verb endings (regular, stem changing, irregular, reflexive), numbers to 100 in words, time, days, prices.
  • Draw and Pass (group, 33 min): Telephone with pictures. Write in Spanish, draw, write it again, in silence. It practices writing simple Spanish sentences: animals, people, places, food, colors, present tense verbs, adjective agreement.
  • Brain Teaser Tournament (teams, or alone, 41 min): 24 Spanish riddles and puzzles in 3 rounds, solved in teams or alone. It practices everyday words (food, body, weather, animals, class, family), days, months, dates, times and numbers.
  • La fiesta sorpresa (teams, 40 min): A logic-grid mystery in Spanish: 10 clues, one missing cake, no guessing. It practices reading Spanish clues: times in words, después de, más tarde que, negation, school and party words.
  • Category Race (group, 41 min): One letter. Ten categories. Three minutes. Spanish words only. It practices recalling and spelling A1 words: animals, food, body, town, class, clothes, family, jobs, days, numbers, verbs.
  • This or That Stand-Off (whole class, 42 min): Pick a side, hear one Spanish speaker each, vote again. Most votes wins. It practices speaking Spanish with preferir and gustar, giving a reason with porque and an adjective, free time and food words.
  • A sub script for every activity, with the answer keys printed on it or right after it (10 pages), and 21 student pages
