PreK Maternity Leave Sub Plans, 6 Weeks, Preschool and Pre-K Long Term Sub Plans, 30 Days, No Prep, No Reading, 672 Pages

Maternity leave coming up? Six weeks of Pre-K days are ready to print. I wrote these PreK maternity leave sub plans as long term sub plans for preschool and Pre-K: six binders, 30 days, and every student page is pictures, so nobody has to read or write. The sub reads everything aloud from a short numbered script, and every activity starts with a "Say this to start" box. Each day has nine activities of 10 to 20 minutes: six picture pages every child does on their own (literacy with a letter of the day, math, fine motor and art, science, social and emotional, quiet time) and three whole-class times (Circle Time, group movement and an optional game, a fun way to end the day). No prep and no tech for you: print and go. I planned the six weeks as a strong start for the first weeks of a maternity leave, and they work just as well for a medical or family leave, an emergency, or your own weeks when you need a break from planning.

Perfect For

  • The first six weeks of a maternity leave, so your little ones start the leave with a plan for every day
  • Six weeks out: surgery or medical leave, a family leave, a long illness
  • A long-term sub who has never taught Pre-K: every activity is a short numbered script
  • Your own weeks without a sub when you need a break from planning, or one activity a day for a month: no prep, no tech
  • Your preschool sub tub or emergency sub folder, ready before you need it

How It Works

  1. Print the six binders and leave them out. Week 1 covers days 1 to 5, Week 2 days 6 to 10, Week 3 days 11 to 15, Week 4 days 16 to 20, Week 5 days 21 to 25 and Week 6 days 26 to 30. Each binder’s week plan on page 4 is already filled in with every activity, its page and its minutes.
  2. Each week has one friendly creature and each day has its own theme and letter of the day, with 9 short activities of 10 to 20 minutes. Snack, outdoor play and rest follow your own posted routine.
  3. The sub reads the "Say this to start" box and the numbered script, then the read-aloud strip on the student page. The children never read or write: every student page is pictures, big numbers 1 to 10, and a single letter shown with a picture.
  4. Every activity stands alone, so swap days, skip one, or spread them out. Each script ends with an optional "More time?" idea if your day has room.
  5. Answers are in the key with pictures, so the sub needs no early childhood training.

What the Sub Gets

I wrote every binder so a sub can run the day from the printed pages alone. Here is what the sub gets:

  • A note to the substitute at the front of every binder that explains the day, the activities and what to do if the class gets wiggly
  • A "Say this to start" box on every one of the 270 activities: two or three sentences to read aloud
  • A short numbered script for every activity, with a line that says what it practices and an optional "More time?" idea at the end
  • A read-aloud strip on every student page, so the sub knows exactly what to tell the children
  • A filled-in week plan, a blank schedule, a class list with pick-up adults and a "how it went" sheet in every binder
  • Answer keys with pictures for every activity that has an answer

Helpful Details

Written for Pre-K and preschool, ages 3 to 5. 270 activities over 30 days, each 10 to 20 minutes, each with a "Say this to start" box, a short numbered script, a read-aloud strip and an optional "More time?" idea. Supplies are crayons, paper and glue; scissors only where your class uses them, always with a no-scissors option. No tech, no logins, no prep. The six weeks have 30 different themes, so the class never gets the same day twice; Friday of Week 6 is a Big Review Day with all the friends. Week 1 is my one-week PreK sub plans with a new Friday game. I see six weeks as a strong start for a maternity leave, not the whole leave: your class has a calm, happy plan for the first weeks while the longer plans are settled.
