German Conversation Cards, Speaking Activity for A1 to C1 Teens and Adults, 120 Printable Cards and Google Slides

$5.99

Ask a real question about their life, and my students forget to be shy in German. These German conversation cards are a German speaking activity for A1 to C1 teens and adults: 120 cards in 10 everyday topics, each with a follow-up question, to print or use in Google Slides.

Perfect For

  • German classes from A1 to C1: high school German, adult education, conversation classes and mixed level groups
  • Pair work, speed chatting, inner and outer circle (Kugellager), small groups, or an exit talk at the end of class
  • Warm-ups, speaking test practice, and lessons where every student needs to talk

How the Cards Work

  1. Pick a topic and a level. Every card shows its level by color and stars, so you can hand out one level only
  2. Partner A reads the card and Partner B answers in German
  3. Partner A asks the follow-up question (Nachfrage) on the card, then they swap
  4. The Redemittel sheet for each level helps students give opinions, agree, disagree politely and ask for more

Why Teachers Love These Cards

  • A follow-up on every card, so answers turn into real conversations
  • Three levels in one set, sorted by level for printing, so it grows with your class from A1 to C1
  • Natural German questions written for each level, not translations of English cards
  • No prep: print, cut and talk, or project one card at a time

Here is a quick look at the cards:

Description

  • Every card shows its level (color and stars), its topic, the question and a follow-up question
  • A teacher page in English: six ways to use the cards, the three levels, the topics and teacher tips
  • A Redemittel (useful phrases) sheet for each level: give your opinion, agree, disagree politely, ask for more, buy some time, check you understand
  • A Write Your Own page of blank cards (Eigene Karten)
  • A 138 slide deck in Google Slides or PowerPoint: a topic menu, a level picker for every topic, one card per slide with a TIPP phrase, a Redemittel slide per level and a Write Your Own slide
  • Color and ink-saver black and white, US Letter and A4 (20 printable pages)

The Three Levels

  • A1-A2 (40 cards): everyday questions about you and your life, like Was ist dein Lieblingswort auf Deutsch? or Was könntest du jeden Tag essen?
  • B1-B2 (40 cards): experiences, plans and opinions, like Duzen oder Siezen: Was findest du bei der Arbeit besser? or In Deutschland sind die meisten Läden sonntags zu. Wie findest du das?
  • C1 (40 cards): abstract questions with no easy answer, like Sollten Innenstädte autofrei werden? or Immer mehr englische Wörter landen im Deutschen. Ist das eine Bereicherung oder eine Gefahr?

The 10 Topics

Familie und Freunde, Essen und Trinken, Freizeit und Hobbys, Reisen und Verkehr, Schule und Beruf, Stadt und Nachbarschaft, Gesundheit und Sport, Einkaufen, Medien und Technik, and Feste und Traditionen. Each topic has 4 cards at A1-A2, 4 at B1-B2 and 4 at C1.

A few cards are about life in German-speaking countries: sorting the trash, shops closed on Sundays, Ausbildung or Studium, duzen or siezen, hiking, Karneval and New Year fireworks. No prior knowledge is needed: students give an opinion or compare.

Every card uses du, the usual form in German classes for teens and adults. The teacher page is in English; everything students see is in German.

Every card is safe for teens and adults in mixed classes: no dating, money, religion or politics, no questions about home or family structure, and sharing is always optional.
