High School Drama Sub Plans, Week Long Emergency Sub Plans, No Prep, 5 Days, 62 Pages

$9.99

Out for a week? Every drama period is planned, Monday to Friday. These drama sub plans give your substitute five days of theater arts review, one set per day for every period, ready as emergency sub plans, long term sub plans or a no prep drama sub binder for high school theatre and drama classes. Each set is a drama review packet on stage directions, reading a script, building a character, theater history and design, with original scenes and monologues, plus team tasks with a short scene to perform, optional drama games, a daily theater vocabulary block and answer keys, so a sub with no acting background can run it. No tech needed. Print and go for a planned absence, a sub tub, a substitute teacher binder, or emergency lesson plans on a sick day.

Perfect For

  • A full week out: sick leave, a conference, jury duty, a family emergency
  • A sub who does not know your subject or your class
  • Teachers with several Drama sections: one set covers every period that day
  • Your sub tub or emergency sub folder, ready before you need it
  • Long term subs who need a first week that runs itself

How It Works

  1. Print the binder and leave it on your desk. The week plan on page 4 is already filled in, with page numbers and minutes for every set.
  2. Monday’s set runs in every period you teach on Monday, Tuesday’s set on Tuesday, and so on. The calm vocabulary block fits any gap, the team task fills a block period, and the game is optional fun for the last 15 minutes.
  3. Every set stands alone, so the plan is only a sample order: swap sets between days, or use one with another class when it fits. Each set opens with a line that says what it reviews.
  4. Every answer is in the key, so the sub needs no subject knowledge.
  5. Prefer your own order? A blank weekly schedule is included.

What’s Inside: 62 Pages

  • A sub binder front section: a note to the substitute, the week plan already filled in Monday to Friday with page numbers, a blank weekly schedule, class list and dismissal, a “how it went” sheet, and a Monday opener (Meet Your Sub)
  • Drama set 1, The Stage and Theater Vocabulary: reviews stage directions from the actor’s view on a stage map, parts of the theater, theater jobs, kinds of stage, reading blocking notation
  • Drama set 2, Reading a Script: reviews objective, obstacle, tactics, subtext and stage directions, reading an original two-person scene closely
  • Drama set 3, Building a Character: reviews given circumstances, objective, voice and body choices that fit the text, analyzing an original monologue
  • Drama set 4, Theater History and Genres: reviews ancient Greek theater, commedia dell’arte, Shakespeare’s Globe and the American musical, reading for evidence, a timeline in order
  • Drama set 5, Design and Production: reviews the design team’s jobs, reading a script for lighting and sound cues, a props list, design terms, a ground plan for an original scene
  • Drama team tasks, one per day (about 40 minutes, groups of four): Opening Night Countdown; The Spring Show Budget; The Model Box; The Scene Change; Ten Minutes to Places
  • Optional Drama games for the last 15 minutes, a fun way to end the class or something for extra time, with drama questions for grades 9 to 12: Whiteboard Quiz Game; Paper Password; Class Feud; Classroom Millionaire; Mystery Box
  • A calm vocabulary block for each day, for early finishers or a loud moment: students learn 8 new theater terms, turn the page over and test themselves quietly (match, word hunt, story gaps, unscramble, mystery word), then check with the answer strip: Learn and Test: Stage Terms; Learn and Test: Script Terms; Learn and Test: Acting Terms; Learn and Test: Genre Terms; Learn and Test: Design Terms
  • Answer keys for every set, vocabulary test, team task and game
