Classroom Whodunit Mystery Ice Breaker, Detective Team Building Game for Grades 6 to 12

$4.99

A trophy is missing, four people wanted it gone, and your class has one period to crack the case. This mystery ice breaker is a print and play whodunit for teams: a detective game where students earn every clue by listening to each other, then interview the suspects and accuse. Team building, any time of year, no prep.

Perfect For

  • A new class, a new semester, or new seating groups
  • Advisory, homeroom, sub days, and the last week before a break
  • Review days: swap the listening check for your own questions and the same case becomes a review game

How the Game Works

  1. Every student answers six quick questions on a Detective Profile and reads them to their team
  2. You read the Case Briefing. Each team gets four suspect cards and an Accusation Sheet
  3. Teams earn the four clue cards one at a time: a student has to repeat what a teammate said
  4. Teams compare each clue with the suspects’ statements, cross off who it clears, and accuse. One shot

Why Teachers Love This Game

  • The evidence is locked behind listening, so the ice breaker is the game, not a warm-up before it
  • Every clue matters. Any three leave two suspects standing. Only all four solve it
  • Real scoring: points per clue, a bonus for the right accusation, and points for clearing the other three with evidence
  • A theft, not a murder, so it is safe from grade 6 up and still has a liar to catch

Ice Breaker or Review Game

In ice breaker mode a team earns its next clue when one student can repeat what a teammate wrote on their Detective Profile. In review mode you ask a question from your unit instead. Four questions, four clues, same mystery, and the students will not notice they are reviewing.

The Case Is Fair

I checked the logic with a script, not by eye. With all four clues exactly one suspect is left. With any three, at least two are. So nobody can solve it early by guessing, and the last clue is always worth earning.

Please Note

This is a print and play resource. There are no slides and no editable file, so what you see in the preview is exactly what you print. The Solution page and two of the clue cards are kept out of the preview so the answer stays a secret.
