A $60 jacket at 30% off, a two-step equation and a cone, all on one board. This middle school math review game runs in Google Slides or PowerPoint for 6th 7th 8th grade math, with a Daily Double, a Final Question and print cards.

Perfect For

  • 6th, 7th and 8th grade math classes, and mixed middle school groups
  • Spiral review, test prep, the end of a unit, a review before a break, or a Friday class
  • Sub days: the sub runs the slides, or students play in pairs with the printed cards

How the Game Works

  1. A team picks a category and a dollar value on the board, then answers the question
  2. Click the answer button to check. Correct wins the value, wrong lets another team steal
  3. One cell hides the Daily Double: the team wagers first, then doubles it if correct
  4. After the board, every team wagers on the Final Question. Highest total wins

Why Teachers Love This Game

  • Answers show the key number in green, and the teacher key lists other answers to accept
  • No prep and no logins. Works in Google Slides or PowerPoint, or fully on paper with the cards
  • Every question is editable, so you can swap in your own questions

What This Game Reviews

Simplifying ratios, unit prices, sale prices, the constant of proportionality and percent increase; one-step and two-step equations, the distributive property, inequalities and a system of two equations; integers, fractions as decimals, evaluating expressions with negatives, scientific notation and square roots; perimeter, triangle area, supplementary angles, circle area and the Pythagorean theorem; range, median, the interquartile range, scatter plots and compound probability; function rules, proportional graphs, slope and what makes a relation a function; and a cone volume Final Question. The questions review lessons from all six weeks of my middle school math sub plans, and the game works just as well on its own for any 6th, 7th or 8th grade math class.

Made for Grades 6 to 8

The questions are short and climb from 6th grade skills at $100 to 8th grade skills at $500: a ratio of girls to boys at the start, systems of equations, the Pythagorean theorem and functions at the top. Every answer is worked out and checked twice, and the teacher key lists the answers to accept.

Play It Without a Projector

Print the question cards double-sided and cut them apart. Lay them question-down on the table so students see only the category and the dollar value, just like the board. A student picks a card, a partner reads the question and checks the answer printed on the card. The same cards work for pairs, stations and small groups, and for a sub day.

Daily Double and Final Question

The Daily Double hides behind one cell on the board. The team that picks it wagers any amount up to their total before seeing the question, and doubles that wager if they answer correctly. When the board is cleared, every team writes down a Final Question wager, the question is shown, and teams add or lose their wager. Highest total wins.

Works On

Windows, Mac, and Chromebooks. Project the slides. No student devices or logins required.

Important

Play in Slideshow (Present) mode so every cell, button, and link works. The sound buttons (thumbs up, thumbs down, and music) work in the PowerPoint version, which is included here. Google Slides does not play sounds, so those buttons are simply decorative in the Slides version.
