Understanding the new TpT seller plans
On October 1, 2026, Teachers Pay Teachers announced that its Premium Seller membership ends on December 31, 2026. From January 1, 2027 there are two choices. Exclusive costs the same $59.95 a year as Premium, pays 77.5% instead of 80%, and requires you to sell your digital teaching resources only on TpT. Basic is unchanged at 55% plus $0.30 per resource, and lets you sell anywhere. Premium sellers who do not opt in become Basic automatically. I wrote up the whole change, the dates and what sellers are saying in TpT Exclusive Seller: what it really means for teachers who sell.
| TpT Exclusive | TpT Basic | Premium (ends Dec 31, 2026) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| You keep | 77.5% of each sale | 55% of each sale | 80% of each sale |
| Membership cost | $59.95 a year, no refund if you leave | $29 once (waived for Premium sellers who roll over) | $59.95 a year |
| Per-resource fee | $0.15, only on resources priced under $3 | $0.30 on every resource sold | $0.15, only on resources under $3 |
| Sell the same files on your own website | No. Your site may show them, but the buy button must send people to TpT | Yes | Yes |
| Sell on Etsy, Tes, Amped Up Learning, Classful and others | No | Yes | Yes |
| Memberships, subscriptions, direct school licenses | No | Yes | Yes |
| Still allowed off TpT | Physical products, courses and PD, Boom Cards on Boom, Kindle books, clip art, fonts, free resources | Everything | Everything |
| Seller tools | Search Analytics, Keyword Finder, marketing tools | None of the Premium analytics | Search Analytics, Keyword Finder, marketing tools |
| Changing your mind | You can leave, but must wait one year to opt in again | Upgrade to Exclusive any time | Cancel any time |
Checked against TpT’s own pages in October 2026 (last check October 18): the FAQ for existing Premium sellers, the FAQ for new and Basic sellers and the fee page. TpT said more guidance on what counts as a digital educational resource would follow. Please verify the current terms before you decide.
Want to Sell Your Teaching Resources Beyond TpT? I’ll Help You Get Started.
Don’t spend weeks rewriting descriptions, rebuilding previews and sorting hundreds of files. I prepare your existing TpT catalog for the platform you choose, so that opening a second store takes days, not months.
I sell my own catalog of more than 200 resources on both TpT and my own WooCommerce store, and every one of them was listed on both, so I know exactly which parts of a TpT listing need to change for another platform and which can be kept. Here is how the migration works.
Share your products
You send your product files, descriptions, cover images and any listing details you have, through a shared folder. No TpT password, ever.
Choose your destination
Your own WooCommerce or Shopify store, Etsy, Payhip, Tes, Amped Up Learning, or a mix. I’ll tell you honestly which fits your products.
I prepare your listings
- Titles rewritten for that platform’s search
- SEO-friendly descriptions
- Tags, keywords and categories
- Previews and thumbnails resized
- Prices and bundle structure
- Download files organised
Review and import
You review everything in a spreadsheet, then receive an import-ready package: a CSV for WooCommerce or Shopify, or per-listing folders for marketplaces that have no bulk import.
What this is, and is not. You get import-ready listings and files that you upload to your new store (for WooCommerce and Shopify that is one CSV import). I do not publish on your behalf yet, and I never ask for your TpT login. Automated publishing may come later; I will not charge for it until it exists and works.

Why sell beyond TpT at all?
What you gain
- Less dependence on one marketplace. Nobody can change your payout rate by email.
- Your own brand and your own buyers. The sale happens on your page and the email address is yours.
- Freedom to test pricing and bundles without a marketplace’s rules.
- More places to be found. Google, Pinterest, Etsy search and a teacher marketplace each bring different buyers.
- Control over promotions, sales and email.
What you take on
- Finding buyers yourself. TpT’s search is its real product. A new shop has no traffic until you build it.
- Payments, taxes and refunds become your job, or your platform’s for a fee.
- Customer service lands in your inbox.
- Website upkeep if you run your own store.
- No guarantee. Selling independently costs time before it pays, and for some sellers Exclusive will be the better deal. That is what the calculator is for.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between TpT Exclusive and Basic?
Exclusive pays 77.5% of each sale for $59.95 a year and requires you to sell your digital teaching resources only on TpT. Basic pays 55% minus $0.30 per resource, costs $29 once (waived for Premium sellers who roll over), and lets you sell anywhere. Both replace Premium (80%) from January 1, 2027.
Can I sell my teaching resources on my own website?
As a Basic seller, yes. As an Exclusive seller, no: your website can show your products, but the buy button has to send teachers to your TpT store. Free resources, physical products, courses and clip art are exempt.
How much does TpT take from each sale?
From January 1, 2027: 22.5% on Exclusive (plus $0.15 per resource under $3), and 45% plus $0.30 per resource on Basic. On a $4.99 resource you keep about $3.87 on Exclusive and $2.44 on Basic. Until December 31, 2026, Premium sellers keep 80%.
How much would I need to sell outside TpT to make Basic worthwhile?
Roughly, the Exclusive and Basic payouts differ by 22.5 points plus the $0.30 fee. For every $100 of TpT sales you give up about $25 to $28 by choosing Basic, and you need to earn that back elsewhere after fees. The calculator above gives you the exact break-even for your numbers and your platform’s fees.
Can I sell on Etsy and TpT at the same time?
Yes, as a Basic seller. Exclusive sellers may not sell qualifying digital teaching resources on Etsy or any other marketplace. If you already sell on Etsy, choosing Exclusive means closing those listings.
Can I transfer my TpT products to Shopify?
Yes. TpT has no export button, but your files, descriptions and images are yours. They need reworking for Shopify’s product fields, collections and search, and then a CSV import. That is exactly what the migration service prepares.
Do I need to leave TpT to sell independently?
No. Most sellers I know keep their TpT store as a Basic seller for the buyers it brings and add a store they own for repeat buyers, bundles and their email list. The only thing you give up is the Exclusive rate.
How does the product migration service work?
You share your files and listing details through a folder, choose a destination, and I rewrite titles, descriptions, tags and categories for that platform, resize images and organise the files. You review everything in a spreadsheet and receive an import-ready package.
Will the migration service publish my products automatically?
Not yet. You receive import-ready files and clear instructions, and for WooCommerce and Shopify the upload is a single CSV import. I will add automated publishing only once it is built and tested, and I never ask for your TpT or store passwords.
Is the TpT profit calculator free?
Yes. No signup, no account connection, and your numbers never leave your browser. The only thing I ask is that you share it with a seller friend who is also deciding.
